Dr. Anurag Srivastava completed a journey of 4 decades of academic surgery starting in “Oxford of the East” the University of Allahabad to “Harvard of the East” in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He received his basic schooling and medical education in the city of Allahabad, Master of Surgery degree from the University of Allahabad in 1981 and basic training in oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital in 1982. In 1983 he was appointed as a senior house officer and research registrar at the Department of surgery, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. where he underwent higher education in surgical oncology with special emphasis on Breast care and Melanoma under the guidance of Prof. Leslie Hughes, Prof. David Webster, and Prof. Robert Mansel. He was awarded fellowship by examination from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh–FRCS in June 1984. He undertook basic research in Tumour Angiogenesis for which he was awarded a PhD degree in 1988 from the University of Wales, Cardiff. He moved to Banaras Hindu University in 1988 and later joined the AIIMS, New Delhi as a faculty in the Department of Surgical Disciplines in July 1989. He superannuated from AIIMS in December 2020 serving AIIMS for 31 years as faculty, professor for 20 years and chairman for 7 years.
Rockefeller Foundation selected him for training in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill USA in 1993, where he received the Degree of “Master of Public Health” (MPH) in 1994.
He was invited as a visiting professor for 1 year to Cardiff University in 2005 to work with Prof. Robert Mansel and as a Clinical Scientist at the Advanced Centre for Cancer Treatment and Research (ACTREC) of Tata Memorial Centre, Navi Mumbai in 2010.
He has accomplished a large number of randomized clinical trials in Benign Breast diseases and Breast Cancer. He has collaborated with National and International Breast Cancer trials. In 2014, he developed the guidelines for multi-disease screening of common cancer of the Mouth, Breast, and Cervix for National Health Mission of the Government of India.
He initiated 3 M.Ch. Courses at AIIMS, New Delhi- M.Ch. Breast and Endocrine Surgery, M.Ch. Trauma & Critical Care, and M.Ch. Minimal Access surgery.
Presently he is serving as Director Subharti Institute of Cancer Management & Research in Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut. Dr Srivastava is a passionate teacher and has taught surgery to a large number of medical students and residents in India, United Kingdom, Russia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Malaysia. He is also engaged in teaching “Research Methodology & Clinical Epidemiology’ in many universities and medical institutions. Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) awarded him the”Jewel of ASI” in 2023 for his profound contributions to surgical education.
