Professor Mamoon Rashid graduated from Army Medical College Rawalpindi in 1984 and was awarded FCPS in 1990 and FRCS (Eng.) in 1993. He did his Plastic Surgery training in Pakistan and in the U.K at St. Thomas’ Hospital London. On his return, he established the first Plastic Surgery Unit in the Armed Forces which he headed till July 2009. He is presently Professor and Head of Plastic Surgery at Shifa College of Medicine Islamabad.
He has been very active in limb and facial reconstruction after trauma and after resection for intraoral cancer and limb sarcoma. He is a past President of the Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons and of the Pakistan Society for Hand Surgery. He has been an Examiner for Fellowship in Plastic Surgery since 1998.
He has presented more than 250 papers at conferences including invited lectures at international forums and was the McIndoe Lecturer at the British Association of Plastic Surgeons in 2021.He has authored 150 publications and written chapters in 3 books. He is the Chief Editor of the Pakistan Journal of Plastic Surgery.
He won the British Journal of Plastic Surgery Prize in 2003 and the Norman Rowe foundation Award in 2005. In 2006 he was conferred the Sitara-e-Eisaar (The Star Award for courage and sacrifice) for his services to the victims of the 2005 Earthquake. He is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Awards from Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons and Pakistan Society for Surgery of the Hand.
