Biography: Iain Hathorn – Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon

Iain Hathorn is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon in the Edinburgh ENT department, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, University of Edinburgh.

He received a BSc in Anatomical Science in 1998 and MBChB in 2001 from the University of Bristol. Following initial training in Bristol, London and Australia, he completed higher surgical training in ENT in Edinburgh.

In 2012 he completed an Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at St Paul’s Sinus Centre, Vancouver, Canada. He was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Edinburgh in 2013 and subsequently established the Edinburgh Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery Service along with a neurosurgical colleague. His clinical and research interests include inflammatory diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses, sinonasal and skull base tumours, clinical outcomes following endoscopic sinus surgery, and the use and development of new devices and technology in endoscopic nasal surgery. He also has an interest in medical education and training, and has been the Associate Director of Medical Education, and Undergraduate Lead for NHS Lothian. He was a council member for the British Rhinological Society and is an examiner for the FRCS (ORL-HNS).
